BK Farmhouse – Bahria Enclave, Islamabad
Project Overview
BK Farmhouse is a contemporary residential retreat defined by its striking cantilevered travertine facade and deep integration with its surrounding landscape. The architecture balances grand double-height interior volumes with intimate, stone-clad internal courtyards to ensure natural light and privacy.
Project Brief
BK Farmhouse represents a modern approach to rural residential design, characterized by bold, intersecting cubic volumes. The defining feature of the primary elevation is a massive, cantilevered structure fully clad in horizontally veined travertine. This imposing volume shelters a sunken driveway and lower-level entrance, creating a clear distinction between public approach and private living spaces. The exterior palette relies heavily on the organic textures of the travertine, contrasted with dark, rough-hewn stone retaining walls and sleek, black-framed floor-to-ceiling glazing.
The interior spatial flow is organized around the concept of indoor-outdoor connectivity and vertical volume. A grand, double-height foyer serves as the central anchor, distinguished by a soaring travertine-clad architectural column and a large-scale Islamic calligraphy art installation. Natural light is prioritized throughout the floor plan; multiple internal courtyards, finished with dark textured stone, are integrated directly into the living spaces and bedrooms to provide light wells and private visual escapes.
The material palette indoors transitions between warm, neutral tones in the primary living areas—featuring fluted wood credenzas, metallic accents, and curved seating arrangements—and high-contrast, sophisticated finishes in the utility and private spaces. The modern galley kitchen utilizes ribbed glass cabinetry and dark marble countertops, maintaining a sleek, functional aesthetic.
The private quarters are designed with an emphasis on materiality and scale. The master suite features a minimalist aesthetic that flows into an expansive, fully clad grey marble bathroom, complete with a freestanding bathtub and dual vanity.
The transition to the exterior is seamless, heavily utilizing large sliding glass doors. The rear of the property is dedicated to leisure, featuring a covered patio with lounging areas that step down directly to a mosaic-tiled swimming pool. A standalone, illuminated stone and travertine water feature anchors the broader landscape, completing the farmhouse’s cohesive architectural narrative.
